- Madison Highlands will be designed and built to LEED Silver certification according to the U.S. Green Building Council; LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a nationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Green building features include:
• Indoor environmental quality
• Energy and water efficiency
• A sustainable structure and landscape
Established through a consensus-based process by committees, LEED certification is a third-party program which promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in the key areas of human and environmental health.
- These areas include sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
LEED certification also presents economic benefits as well by reducing operating assets, enhancing asset value, improving employee productivity and optimizing life-cycle economic performance.
As buildings continue to account for the majority of energy waste, the benefits of green building are compelling. Through installation of various green components, ecosystems and biodiversity are enhanced and protected. Solid waste is then reduced, while the quality of air and water are improved.
